During my tenure as an active duty naval optometrist from 2011 to 2023, I had the privilege of delivering comprehensive ocular health and commissioning examinations to military members and their beneficiaries. This experience allowed me to not only serve our dedicated service members but also make a meaningful impact on their families' well-being. I take immense pride in providing routine and emergency eye care services to our community, knowing that my work enables individuals to enjoy their best possible lives. My passion for helping others through the realm of optometry has been a driving force throughout my career. I find great satisfaction in ensuring that people have access to high-quality eye care, which, in turn, contributes to their overall health and quality of life. In addition to my professional career, I'm also a dedicated "hockey mom," actively supporting my children's love for the sport. I'm a passionate skier, finding exhilaration on snow-covered slopes.

About Roxanne Guerndt, OD

Dr. Roxanne Guerndt graduated with a Bachelor of Biomedical Science from the University of South Florida. She then went on to receive her Doctorate in Optometry from Nova Southeastern University. In addition, she trained at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and The Lake Nona Veterans Affairs where she helped manage a variety of ocular conditions. Dr. Guerndt is a member of the American Optometric Association and The Florida Optometric Association. During her free time, Dr. Guerndt is an avid health enthusiast and likes to spend her free time doing various activities such as running and biking. When not physically active, you may find this 5th-generation Floridian gardening, boating, or playing with her rescue kitten, Luna.

About Chequita Hilversum, OD

Dr. Hilversum’s interest in eyes started when she was a child listening to stories on how her great grandmother lost her sight due to glaucoma. As the years went by and more family members developed this condition her fascination grew. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in chemistry and an AA degree in Opticianry, she worked as an optician for a few years before going back to school. In 1995, she received her doctorate degree in optometry from Nova Southern University. Afterwards, she did a residency in primary care optometry at the VA in Brockton and Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Hilversum had her own practice in Panama City, FL, and also in Suriname, South America. She likes to help people see better and enjoys her work. She speaks several languages including English, Dutch, Spanish and Sranan Tongo (a dialect spoken in Suriname). In her spare time, she likes spending time with her husband and to do word puzzles, Sudoku and exercise.

I strive to give the best care to my patients by properly educating them about how their ocular health can be directly influenced by their systemic health. I make it a priority to provide my patients with the tools and resources they need to improve and maintain their ocular health as well as their overall well-being. I also love creating meaningful connections with my patients to understand who they are and what they do to ensure that their needs are being met. Hobbies/Interests: Teaching yoga and Pilates, hiking, traveling, eating good food, and finding new coffee shops.
