Dr. James Maul earned his undergraduate Engineering degree at The Ohio State University and then continued on to The Ohio State University College of Optometry. Graduating in 1982, he attained membership in Beta Sigma Kappa, the Optometric Honor Society. Dr. Maul has taken an active role in community activities. Through membership in Lions and VOSH, he continues to help facilitate much needed vision care for the underprivileged, both in Norwalk and in Nicaragua. In addition to practicing primary eyecare, Dr. Jim has a particular interest in treating and educating patients dealing with diabetes and glaucoma. He has had two articles published in professional journals and is dedicated to bringing the latest technology and research available to his patients. Dr. Maul is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Ohio Optometric Association, and is a past governor of the North Central Optometric Association.

The reason I became an optometrist is: the instant gratification of positively impacting a patient's life by something as simple as prescribing an eyeglasses prescription. My favorite part of helping my patients is: taking time to listen to their needs or concerns and improving not only their eyesight but their quality of life as well. In my spare time, I enjoy: spin and barre fitness classes and cooking plant-based meals.

The reason I became an optometrist is: because I'm near-sighted myself, so from an early age I knew the importance of having my eyes checked regularly. My favorite part of helping my patients is: using my skills and knowledge to explain how their eyes are doing vision and health wise in a way that is easy for them to understand :) In my spare time, I enjoy: Spending time with my husband and my husky, Czar. I also enjoy traveling and finding the best pizza spots!

The reason I became an optometrist is: I was always fascinated by the eye and visual system since I was a child. I greatly enjoy the clinical aspect of the profession as well as the patient/human interactions. My favorite part of helping my patients is: knowing I have made a real and positive impact on patient's lives whether it's through medical treatment or optical means. In my spare time, I enjoy: Fitness - running, cycling, swimming (triathlons); Travel with family especially beach resorts and warm climates, but also Alaska.

Dr. Johannes has been in practice since 2005. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology at St. Norbert College. And her Doctor of Optometry degree at the Illinois College of Optometry. She was a former Captain in the United States Army. When she is not working, she spends the majority of her time helping the less fortunate and marginalized. She loves her patients and has a mind, body, soul approach to caring for her patients.

The reason I became an optometrist is: I have needed vision correction since second grade and enjoy being able to make a difference in patient’s lives like my optometrist did for me in the past. I also enjoy being able to help patients see their best to enhance their lives as well as being able to help monitor or detect systemic health conditions by examining their eye health. My favorite part of helping my patients is: Learning what each patient needs for school, work, or activities and being able to find the best prescription to help them see their best every day. In my spare time, I enjoy: Spending time with family and friends, going to the beach, and enjoying the outdoors.
