The reason I became an optometrist is: Growing up our family’s Optometrist, Dr Louis Johnson, inspired me to learn more about the profession. My favorite part of helping my patients is: The lifelong relationships that have developed while providing excellent eye and health care and then becoming the trusted eye doctor for the future generations of their families. In my spare time, I enjoy: Practicing golf and playing with friends and in tournaments. And, of course, any family activity with my wonderful wife, Debby, and our 3 sons.

The reason I became an optometrist is: During the first visit to my eye doctor’s office as a teenager, I was impressed by how quickly the optometrist was able to help clear my vision with lenses. This was a “WOW, I can see clearly now…” amazing experience. So amazing, that the value of clear eyesight spoke to me that day and led me to want to create that WOW experience for others. Therefore, I chose to become an optometrist. My favorite part of helping my patients is: The “that’s amazing” expression that lights up a patient face when they see better brings me joy. Seeing this expression daily is rewarding. These are the reasons I love being an optometrist because I get to improve the lives of people every day by helping them see. In my spare time, I enjoy: The performing arts, magic, bicycling, and travel.

Sight provides ~80% of information needed to interpret our surroundings. Sharpening visual acuity can have great, positive effects on a patient’s job, schooling, or hobbies. It makes me so happy to help a school age kid see the white board better or help an IT specialist who gets headaches at the end of a workday. My favorite part of helping my patients is: potentially improving their everyday lives because they can see better. In my spare time, I enjoy: Spending time with my three kiddos and husband. We like taking family walks and watching the kids play soccer.
