About Angelo Devivo, OD
Dr. AJ DeVivo began his medical career in the U.S. Army, serving as a CAT scan technician. Earning a ROTC scholarship, he pursued his goal of becoming an optometrist and graduated with honors from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, PA.
He began his optometric career as an Army Officer at the largest American hospital in Germany. Over more than 35 years, Dr. DeVivo has practiced in diverse settings, including military medicine, private practice, an ophthalmology surgical group, private opticals, corporate practice, and mobile eye care for medically underserved communities in South Carolina through a Federally Qualified Health Center.
Dr. DeVivo has volunteered and mentored, with service including Medworks at Cleveland Clinic, Lion’s Club, mission work in Haiti, hospital based optometric student preceptorship program, high school mentorship programs, and leadership roles with professional organizations. He has published in Review of Optometry and served as a clinical director and board member of a LASIK center.
Outside of work, Dr. DeVivo enjoys boating, hiking, fishing, hunting, photography, scuba diving and travel. His biggest accomplishment is his family, having met his wife the day he joined the Army. Together, they have four children.
