From there, I developed a fascination for the human eye. That fascination combined with my desire to pursue a career where I could make a difference in people's lives, led me to optometry. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, watching TV, and traveling with my wife. My favorite part of helping my patients is being able to make a patient's life more enjoyable by helping them see better.

Clinical Certifications and Specialties: Residency at the Lexington Veteran Affairs Hospital - 2016-2017. Focus on Ocular disease, Low Vision and Polytrauma (with vision therapy elements). The reason I became an optometrist is: To help people see the world better. My favorite part of helping my patients is: Talking about all the options and possibilities that are available to each patient for their individual needs. In my spare time, I enjoy: Hiking, live music, the beach and snowboarding.

The reason I became an optometrist is: I started wearing glasses in sixth grade and it made such a positive impact for me that I wanted to be able to bring that same experience to other people. My favorite part of helping my patients is: The first time a young person puts on glasses or contacts and says, "Wow!" After twenty years in practice that still gives me a thrill. In my spare time, I enjoy: I like to cook (and eat!) and travel (and eat!) I have 11-year-old twins so "spare time" is not really an accurate term.

Dr. Phillip Boykin graduated from Campbell University in 2010, and then optometry school at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia in 2014. He grew up in Eastern North Carolina and currently reside in Durham. He worked for MED out of school for 5 years and now have returned in a hybrid role: seeing patients in the triangle area half the week in person, while seeing patients all across North Carolina the other half, using our remote optometry platform. He loves being able to serve the entire state using this new technology, especially the smaller towns. He has two small children Finn, 4 and Hattie, 2 and a lovely wife Lindsay.

Clinical Certifications and Specialties: Ocular Disease Residency; Primary care optometry with emphasis on management of ocular disease, with special interest in glaucoma; Contact lens service; Referrals and co-management of ocular disease, cataract surgery and Lasik. The reason I became an optometrist is: The eye is such an amazing structure! It is a joy to be able to apply my love of biology and of helping others daily. My favorite part of helping my patients is: The sense of fulfillment and satisfaction gained in being able to help others through my optometric training. In my spare time, I enjoy: I enjoy spending time with my husband and three children, snow skiing, boating, enjoying the beach and being active in my church.

The reason I became an optometrist is: My dad, a dedicated anesthesiologist, inspired me to seek a career in the medical field. I also had an amazing optometrist growing up in Indiana. I couldn't wait to try on every frame in his practice upon each visit. My favorite part of helping my patients is: I love that I get to take care of families in the community in which I live. I enjoy providing thorough, personalized, quality eye care. It's a pleasure getting to know my patients and their families. I look forward to seeing them return year after year. In my spare time, I enjoy: travel, theater, reading, photography, spending time with family.

Clinical Certifications and Specialties: Completed a residency in primary care/ocular disease at the Orlando VA Medical Center. The reason I became an optometrist is: to be able to help others in a medical setting while still being able to balance a happy work/home life. My favorite part of helping my patients is: Educating patient so they understand not only their eye health, but overall health as well. In my spare time, I enjoy: Spending time with my husband and one-year old son.
