Optometry School: He is a 2001 graduate of Salus University (formerly the Pennsylvania College of Optometry). Professional Achievements and Associations: Dr. Shields has provided care to his patients in multiple settings before joining MyEyeDr in 2009. He was a Vision Care partner for Walmart Vision Centers in four locations, winning District Doctor of the Year. Additionally, Dr. Shields has worked in private practice, having opened his own practice in 2006 in Annapolis, MD, winning The Capital Gazette’s Top Doctor award. The reason I became an optometrist is: I am passionate about patients and helping them develop solutions that will ultimately enable them to lead better lives. My favorite part of helping my patients is: I enjoy learning about my patient’s visual demands and tailoring custom solutions that help improve their lives. In my spare time, I enjoy: He is passionate about his wife, four children and his St. Bernard and spends most of his free time with his family surfing off his boat on the rivers of the Chesapeake Bay. Annapolis Junior Rowing is another cause which he has passionately devoted his time as Vice President as well as overseeing his children’s rowing careers. He and his family are long time Annapolitans, and members of the St. Mary’s Catholic parish.

The reason I became an optometrist is: Vision is something that effects all of us sometime in our lives. It has been a fascinating career over my 40+ years practicing in Frederick County, Maryland. My favorite part of helping my patients is: Continuous care for previous patients and building relationships with new patients. I enjoy helping patients when I can and referring patients if I feel it is necessary. In my spare time, I enjoy: I am an aficionado of classic British sport cars. I have a couple of MGAs and drive, show, and work on them. I also enjoy fishing with my wife at my cottage on the Chesapeake Bay.
