Fances Poma Nowinski, OD

About Fances Poma Nowinski, OD

Dr. Patricia Poma is a Michigan native who received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. While an undergraduate student, she spent a semester abroad in Florence, Italy. She also worked at the Kellogg Eye Center doing genetic research on retinitis pigmentosa, a devastating disease that may lead to blindness. While attending the Ohio State University’s College of Optometry in Columbus, OH, Dr. Poma was honored to work with veterans at the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Poma was selected as the sole recipient of the Eschenbach Low Vision Award. Dr. Poma earned her post-doctorate fellowship in pediatric visual development (FOVDR) in 2010. She particularly enjoys working with children, helping them become successful students through vision therapy. She works hard to identify and treat binocular vision dysfunction, including, but not limited to, prescribing prism. She also helps treat visual dysfunctions that occur due to concussions, TBI, and vertigo. Dr. Poma has a real gift for making every child feel comfortable during their eye exam. She is an international speaker and key opinion leader/consultant for Johnson and Johnson, Neurolens, PECAA, and MD Elite, teaching doctors across the country about the latest innovations in eye care, including dry eye, binocular dysfunction, and contact lenses. She spends a lot of her time mentoring other optometrists and students in both communication skills and practice development. Dr. Poma has been the principal investigator in contact lens clinical trials for Johnson and Johnson, Bausch & Lomb, and Alcon Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Poma is fluent in Italian and relatively articulate in Spanish. She is happily married and enjoys time with her two sons. She enjoys traveling to Italy to visit family and is passionate about holistic health, fitness, and wellness.

Clinical Certifications and Specialties: Training in Scleral Contact Lens Fitting. The reason I became an optometrist is: I come from a family of Optometrists. We have 3 generations of family in eye care. There have been 7 Poole Optometrists and 1 Poole that is training to be an Ophthalmologist. Having good vision improves every aspect of our lives. I love what I do. My favorite part of helping my patients is: Solving vision problems to help them live better lives. In my spare time, I enjoy: Backpacking, camping, mountain biking, and traveling.

About Carly Poskochil, OD

Dr. Carly Poskochil graduated with high distinction from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln earning a degree in Biological Sciences with a pre-optometry focus. She then continued her education at the University of Missouri - Saint Louis where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree and completed clinical rotations in a variety of settings including primary care optometry and ocular disease. She graduated with multiple awards and honors recognizing her academic achievement, involvement, and outstanding character and was named as one of Women in Optometry's Class of 2025 Top Graduates. Following her graduation, she completed her residency in ocular disease with an emphasis on glaucoma and vision rehabilitation at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. When she's not caring for patients, she enjoys reading a good book, playing board games, and spending time with her family and her cats.

Dr. Julie Poteet received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia and her Doctor of Optometry degree from The New England College of Optometry. Upon completion of her residency with the Brockton and West Rosbury VA Medical Centers in Massachusetts, she worked with one of Harvard’s top ophthalmology professors in private practice in Peabody, Massachusetts. After returning to GA, Dr. Poteet has worked in private practice in the Acworth area and completed a Masters of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine. Pediatric Vision care is also a passion of Dr. Poteet’s as she believes in the value of treating the whole child and removing any barriers that prevent them from achieving their fullest academic potential. Dr. Powell has been practicing optometry in the Valley for twenty-five years.  He received his Doctorate in 1987 from Pacific University College of Optometry. He has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from San Diego State University.  He is certified to diagnose and treat diseases of the eyes, as well as pre-, and post- operative care for cataracts, lasik and other refractive procedures.  Dr. Powell uses the latest technology to fit contacts and fits all types, including the Synergy lens.  He is also a certified CRT specialist, which means he is trained to fit  contacts that correct your vision while you sleep. ​Outside of the office, Dr. Powell likes to travel internationally, 'play' fantasy football, and scuba dive.
