During my tenure as an active duty naval optometrist from 2011 to 2023, I had the privilege of delivering comprehensive ocular health and commissioning examinations to military members and their beneficiaries. This experience allowed me to not only serve our dedicated service members but also make a meaningful impact on their families' well-being. I take immense pride in providing routine and emergency eye care services to our community, knowing that my work enables individuals to enjoy their best possible lives. My passion for helping others through the realm of optometry has been a driving force throughout my career. I find great satisfaction in ensuring that people have access to high-quality eye care, which, in turn, contributes to their overall health and quality of life. In addition to my professional career, I'm also a dedicated "hockey mom," actively supporting my children's love for the sport. I'm a passionate skier, finding exhilaration on snow-covered slopes.

What drives your passion for optometry? I get up every day knowing that I’m going to help my patients see their best and help preserve the vision of those with eye diseases and injuries. That is very satisfying to me. How are you helping patients live their best lives? Vision is our most important sense. So much information is taken in with our eyes. I aspire to optimize and protect my patients’ vision. What does providing a transformational eyecare experience mean to you? I hope to achieve my patients’ vision goals and exceed their expectations. I want them to be as excited as I am to be in our office. How are you impacting your local community? I’m a proud volunteer for Remote Area Medical Corps which provides vision, medical and dental care to those who can’t afford it. Hobbies/Interests: I’m on the panel which determines Golf Digest Magazine’s America’s 100 Greatest Courses. I recently completed playing all the courses on that list.

Providing comprehensive and emergency eye exams, as well as, fulfilling routine vision concerns, such as glasses and contacts. Hobbies/Interests: I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, and watching all sports, especially the UAB Blazers.

My own history going to the optometrist and wanting to give the same level of exceptional care that I was given. What does providing a transformational eyecare experience mean to you? Dr. Sean Gretz is a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania. He earned his bachelor's degree in cellular neuroscience from St. Lawrence University in New York. He then completed his professional training at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, where he graduated in 2018 with clinical honors. Following graduation, Dr. Gretz completed a residency program in primary care and ocular disease at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Gretz provides comprehensive, primary eye care with a focus on ocular disease and emergency medicine. He is currently a member of the Maryland Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. In 2022, Dr. Gretz achieved Diplomate certification from the American Board of Optometry. In his spare time, Dr. Gretz enjoys cooking and watching movies. He has recently relocated to Maryland with his family.

Dr. Natasha Griffis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, first class standings, in Ontario, Canada. She obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2011 from The New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA. Currently, she holds licenses to practice optometry in New York State and Ontario, Canada. Throughout her career she has obtained ongoing education and certificates to support enhanced vision care for her patients including being a member of multiple professional associations.

Undergraduate Education: James Madison University. Optometry School: Southern College of Optometry. How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? I absolutely love doing specialty contact lens evaluations – there’s nothing like seeing a patient with poor vision light up once they get their scleral or gas-permeable contact lenses in! Hobbies/Interests: I love traveling, reading, good coffee shops, and spending time with my husband and our five children!

Dr. William Grovenburg earned his doctorate from Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry. He specializes in primary eye care for patients of all ages, focusing on helping them achieve optimal vision and long-term eye health. An active member of both the American Optometric Association and the Oklahoma American Optometric Association, Dr. Grovenburg stays current with the latest optometry advancements. He enjoys spending quality time with his spouse and two children outside the office. A passionate musician, he plays several instruments, including the mandolin (his primary instrument), piano, organ, bass, guitar, ukulele, and banjo.

Professional Achievements and Associations: American Optometric Association; New Hampshire Optometric Association. Clinical Certifications and Specialties: Dry eye specialist. The reason I became an optometrist is: I became interested in vision after doing a research project involving a protein like rhodopsin, a visual pigment molecule that ultimately helps us to see. Additionally, my father was a dentist. Having a parent in the health professions ultimately led me to consider optometry. My favorite part of helping my patients is: I really enjoy prescribing glasses or contact lenses for first-time wearers. That's when I feel that I have the greatest impact on the quality of their lives. By helping them to see, I can truly make a difference, especially with kids. I also enjoy helping to connect patients with other eyecare providers who provide services beyond just glasses and contacts. This includes referring in-house @ MED to optometrists who specialize in binocular vision disorders or specialty contact lenses, or even referring outside of MED to ophthalmology for cataract surgery. Ultimately, my job is to ensure that not only do my patients see their best, but for them to understand how ocular health impacts their vision. As primary care optometrists, we have a broad scope of practice that allows us to prescribe therapeutic pharmaceutical agents (TPAs) for several ocular conditions. It is our job to educate our patients about these conditions and prescribe when appropriate. In my spare time, I enjoy: spending time with my 2 year old daughter; reading; biking; traveling.

Dr. Roxanne Guerndt graduated with a Bachelor of Biomedical Science from the University of South Florida. She then went on to receive her Doctorate in Optometry from Nova Southeastern University. In addition, she trained at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and The Lake Nona Veterans Affairs where she helped manage a variety of ocular conditions. Dr. Guerndt is a member of the American Optometric Association and The Florida Optometric Association. During her free time, Dr. Guerndt is an avid health enthusiast and likes to spend her free time doing various activities such as running and biking. When not physically active, you may find this 5th-generation Floridian gardening, boating, or playing with her rescue kitten, Luna.
