Dr. Hilversum’s interest in eyes started when she was a child listening to stories on how her great grandmother lost her sight due to glaucoma. As the years went by and more family members developed this condition her fascination grew. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in chemistry and an AA degree in Opticianry, she worked as an optician for a few years before going back to school. In 1995, she received her doctorate degree in optometry from Nova Southern University. Afterwards, she did a residency in primary care optometry at the VA in Brockton and Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Hilversum had her own practice in Panama City, FL, and also in Suriname, South America. She likes to help people see better and enjoys her work. She speaks several languages including English, Dutch, Spanish and Sranan Tongo (a dialect spoken in Suriname). In her spare time, she likes spending time with her husband and to do word puzzles, Sudoku and exercise.

Dr. Houtkin is originally from New Jersey and completed his undergraduate studies at Temple University in Philadelphia. He received his Doctor of Optometry Degree from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago and went to San Antonio to fulfill a commitment with the Air Force. He is licensed as a Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Texas Optometric Association and is Board Certified with the American Board of Clinical Optometry. Dr. Houtkin is married to Deborah and they have four children and five grandchildren. He enjoys family gatherings, gardening and working with native Xeriscape plants. He has played accordion and trumpet from a very young age. Dr. Andy received his undergraduate degree with honors from Virginia Tech. He earned his Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, also with honors. His optometric career has included collaborating with some of the best optometrists in the nation, teaching, speaking at conferences, and blogging. He has spent most of his 25-plus year career helping thousands of patients live a healthy visual lifestyle. With the help of his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Howard, their clinic was named one of America’s Finest Optical Retailers by INVISION Magazine. The clinic also placed in Review of Optometry’s Office Design Contest. Dr. Andy enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children, Rachel and Joseph. He enjoys fitness, the outdoors, and creative pursuits such as artistry and writing.
