Retailers and ECPs Participate in National Sunglasses Day

News

ALEXANDRIA Va.— In raising awareness for the harmful effects of UV exposure, dozens of companies, optical retailers and ECPs around the country are making an effort to promote the June 27 observance of National Sunglasses Day through various contests and interactive approaches.

The Vision Council has a list of ways that ECPs and retailers can take part in promoting National Sunglasses Day among their patients and customers. Beginning at 1 p.m. today, the Vision Council will be hosting a Twitter chat using the hashtag #NationalSunglassesDay to engage consumers and those in the optical industry about the impact of UV radiation on eye health and to emphasize the importance of wearing sunglasses. As a fun, additional way to show support retailers, ECPs and their consumers are encouraged to post a selfie wearing shades and using the hashtag #SunglassSelfie.

Transitions Sun who will be participating in the Twitter chat is also hosting a Twitter contest encouraging users to follow @TransitionsSun and retweet them for the chance to win adaptive lens sunglasses.

Additionally, Tura Inc. will be hosting an Eye-Spy Puzzle Game on Saturday, June 27. Puzzles will be posted throughout the day and those participants will have the opportunity to win prizes as a way to celebrate National Sunglasses Day.

As a way to draw attention to the harmful effects that UV rays have on the eye, MyEyeDr is encouraging its consumers to take a quiz that determines their Sun IQ. Participants will be entered to win a free pair of sunglasses.
