Undergraduate Education: Texas A&M University. Optometry School: University of Houston College of Optometry. How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? By providing quality, comprehensive eye care to children and adults in the Richmond/Rosenberg community since 2004. This includes glasses and contacts lens exams, as well as management of ocular disease, such as diabetic eye exams, and ocular emergencies. Hobbies: traveling, reading.

Dr. Michael Spuller earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Michigan, before completing his Doctor of Optometry degree at the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University. He is dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centered eye care with an emphasis on both routine and advanced ocular management. Dr. Spuller practices full-scope primary care optometry, providing comprehensive eye exams and managing a wide range of ocular conditions. He has extensive experience in glaucoma care, including diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management. In addition, he specializes in custom specialty contact lens fitting, including scleral lenses, rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses, and hybrid lenses. He works closely with patients who have complex corneal conditions such as keratoconus, those who have undergone corneal transplants, and individuals with other eye diseases requiring customized visual solutions to improve vision and comfort. Outside of the office, Dr. Spuller enjoys staying active through pickleball and working out, and he finds balance and creativity in baking and cooking. He is a devoted husband and is grateful for the constant support and encouragement of his wife. Together, they enjoy life with their daughter, two cats, and one dog.

Certifications / Awards - National Board of Optometry Certified 2006. Hobbies / Interests - Swimming, hiking, concerts, playing volleyball with my daughters and friends, playing games with friends, watching movies with my family. Dr. Chumbler comes to our practice with over 18 years of experience providing exceptional comprehensive eyecare. She graduated from The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry after completing her dual degrees in Science and Biology. She grew up in the south and loves warm weather and outdoor activities. She moved to Michigan upon marrying her husband, and they have two beautiful daughters. Dr. Chumbler and her family enjoy Michigan’s change of seasons and cheering on our Detroit Lions. She is very active with her daughters’ travel volleyball and softball teams and her family is often found enjoying the tree lighting in our community with their daughters singing in the Christmas choir. Dr. Chumbler is a caring doctor and extends her love for her profession in the detailed comprehensive care she provides to every patient she examines. She treats her patients like family and applies her expansive clinical experience in the care they receive. Dr. Chumbler provides eyecare for all ages and enjoys prescribing prism for patients who have eye muscle imbalances, problem solving patients eyecare needs, fitting complex contact lenses and providing management of ocular disease. I started practicing in Lynchburg, Virginia, in 1980. I enjoy seeing so many of my returning patients and have made many wonderful new friends along the way. The profession of Optometry has been very rewarding. I provide comprehensive eye exams and manage ocular disease. Hobbies: I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy playing golf and watching all kinds of other sports.

Dr. Michelle Staarmann attended The Ohio State University receiving her undergraduate degree in Chemistry and her Doctor of Optometry degree. She also completed an internship in advanced Children’s Vision Care at SUNY College of Optometry. Dr. Michelle is a member of the Ohio Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. She has been in practice with her husband, Dr. Tim Staarmann for the past 35 years. Dr. Michelle practices full scope optometry with a special interest in children’s vision care. Outside the office she enjoys golfing and traveling across the country to visit family and friends.

Dr. Tim Staarmann received his optometric education at The Ohio State University graduating with a Doctor of Optometry degree. He continued his education at OSU receiving a Master’s degree in Physiological Optics while completing the Advanced Contact Lens Fellowship program. He is a member of the Ohio Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Tim practices full scope optometry with a special interest in contact lenses. He and his wife Dr. Michelle Staarmann, who is also an Optometrist, have enjoyed practicing together for the past 35 years. Outside the office, Dr. Tim enjoys golfing and traveling across the country to visit family and friends.

Clinical Certifications and Specialties: I enjoy helping patients of all ages and I have a special interest in Pediatrics. The reason I became an optometrist is: I was encouraged by my Optometrist: Dr. Andy Ishak. I have enjoyed working with him in my hometown over the years since I graduated. My favorite part of helping my patients is: Sharing their joy when they realize they can see the world better. I enjoy problem solving for the unique vision needs of each patient. In my spare time I enjoy family time, kayaking, hiking, reading, and gardening.

Born and raised in Kentucky, Dr. John Stacy’s passion for baseball led him to Murray State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology with a minor in chemistry. He continued his education at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, earning his Doctor of Optometry. Dr. Stacy chose Richmond as the place to pursue his career and raise his family with his wife, Jessica, and son, John David. Dr. Stacy cares for the full range of patients—from pediatrics to geriatrics—including those with eye injuries and eye diseases such as infections, glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts and diabetes. His goal is to make every patient who enters the door feel like family. Dr. Stacy enjoys exercising, cycling and gaming.

Dr. Benjamin Steger earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Bioinformatics, with a minor in Biochemistry, at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. He then worked as a genetic researcher on chronic Hepatitis B infections and how that can lead to liver cancer, at Drexel University. Afterward, Dr. Steger studied, and earned, his Doctorate in Optometry at Salus University in Pennsylvania. Dr. Steger’s optometric training took him to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to a specialty contact lens site, and to the Santa Fe Indian Hospital in New Mexico, to study Native American genetics and disease variabilities. He then focused on diseases in veterans at the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina, as well as primary care Optometry in both Wilmington, North Carolina and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a member of Student Optometric Service to Humanity, Dr. Steger participated in a medical mission trip to El Salvador, where he and his fellow doctors and students provided vision correction and disease treatment to over two thousand patients across their country. He continues to offer his time to the community by offering ocular health screenings at the Black Mountain Neuro Medical Treatment Center, and as a volunteer at the Asheville Museum of Science, where he is currently serving on their Education Committee in an effort to expand interest in the sciences to the Western North Carolina region. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, North Carolina Optometric Society, and Mountain District Society of Optometrists. Dr. Steger has been featured on both WBTW-Charlotte, and local WWNC 570 as a professional guest for Glaucoma Awareness Month. Dr. Steger loves science, especially focusing on molecular biology and genetics, watching scientific documentaries, history, archaeology, hiking, biking, and video games. He is happy to bring his expertise, along with his wife’s, to provide the best eye care to the greater Asheville area, always with his patient’s optimal health in mind.
