About Ruhi Mathew, OD

Dr. Ruhi Mathew is a residency-trained, board-certified optometrist specializing in comprehensive eye care. She graduated with a B.S. in Integrative Neuroscience from SUNY Binghamton before earning her doctorate from Salus University (PCO) at Drexel University. She further refined her expertise in managing complex eye conditions by completing a residency in Ocular Disease and Low Vision/Traumatic Brain Injury at the West Haven VA. Her extensive training allows her to address a wide range of visual health concerns, such as dry eye, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, as well as various binocular vision disorders. Dr. Mathew is an active member of both the Connecticut Association of Optometrists (CAO) and the American Optometric Association (AOA), staying current on the latest advancements in eye care and treatment options. ​When she’s not caring for her patients, Dr. Mathew enjoys spending time with her partner and their two orange cats. She is thrilled to provide high-quality eye care through a compassionate approach.

Dr. Bruce Mathie received his optometric education at The Ohio State University graduating with a Doctor of Optometry degree. He is a member of the Ohio Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association, and serves as a clinical examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Mathie practices full scope optometry with a special interest in the treatment and management of ocular disease and glaucoma. Dr. James Maul earned his undergraduate Engineering degree at The Ohio State University and then continued on to The Ohio State University College of Optometry. Graduating in 1982, he attained membership in Beta Sigma Kappa, the Optometric Honor Society. Dr. Maul has taken an active role in community activities. Through membership in Lions and VOSH, he continues to help facilitate much needed vision care for the underprivileged, both in Norwalk and in Nicaragua. In addition to practicing primary eyecare, Dr. Jim has a particular interest in treating and educating patients dealing with diabetes and glaucoma. He has had two articles published in professional journals and is dedicated to bringing the latest technology and research available to his patients. Dr. Maul is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Ohio Optometric Association, and is a past governor of the North Central Optometric Association.

Dr. Brian Mays received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry from Indiana University. After serving specialized clinics in Low Vision and Primary Health Care in Indianapolis, Dr. Mays completed his residency in Ocular Disease at Omni Eye Services in Atlanta. While at Omni, Dr. Mays served as chief resident over 25 interns from optometry colleges across the nation. He is certified in therapeutic treatment of ocular infections and disease, including glaucoma. He has served on several research panels investigating new visual field testing and contact lens materials. His research on a rare form of cataract and its detection was featured at SECO. He is the recipient of Ciba Vision's Innovation in Contact Lens and Patient Care Award. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Georgia Optometric Association.

Dr. Christopher McCann was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. He achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from North Carolina State University. He achieved another Bachelor of Science degree in Vision Science and then his Doctorate of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2007. He completed a residency in ocular disease at the VA Hospital in Baldwin Park, Orlando. Dr. McCann has volunteered with Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity (VOSH), traveling to impoverished nations to provide medical eye care. He has participated in several medical mission trips to Trinidad, Peru, and Ecuador during his time at Nova. Dr. Vanessa Morales McCann was born in Bronx, New York and raised in Winter Park, Florida. She achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Central Florida. She then achieved another Bachelor of Science in Vision Science and her Doctorate of Optometry with a certificate of professional distinction in 2008 from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She is bilingual in English and Spanish. Her special clinic interests include ocular disease and specialty contact lenses, including scleral and hybrid lenses. She also fits special contact lenses for myopia control in children. She has received advanced training in pediatrics. She is an active member of the American Optometric Association, Florida Optometric Association, and Beta Sigma Kappa, the Optometric Honor Society. In her spare time, Dr. Morales McCann enjoys spending time with her family, exercising, and hiking.
