As an Optometrist, I strive to educate every patient thoroughly about their ocular and visual health for them to truly understand how imperative it is for them to have a yearly comprehensive eye exam. Hobbies/Interests: I love anything to do with being outside in the fresh air and the sun shining down on my face.

Dr. Mariel Mata earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, and went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry degree at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. During her clinical training, she gained extensive experience in ocular disease, contact lenses, pediatric optometry, and myopia management. She is a proud member of the American Academy of Optometry and holds licenses to practice in both New Jersey and Texas. Beyond optometry, Dr. Mata enjoys reading, traveling, exploring new cuisines, and spending time with her family. She is dedicated to providing exceptional, compassionate eye care for patients of all ages.

Dr. Ruhi Mathew is a residency-trained, board-certified optometrist specializing in comprehensive eye care. She graduated with a B.S. in Integrative Neuroscience from SUNY Binghamton before earning her doctorate from Salus University (PCO) at Drexel University. She further refined her expertise in managing complex eye conditions by completing a residency in Ocular Disease and Low Vision/Traumatic Brain Injury at the West Haven VA. Her extensive training allows her to address a wide range of visual health concerns, such as dry eye, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, as well as various binocular vision disorders. Dr. Mathew is an active member of both the Connecticut Association of Optometrists (CAO) and the American Optometric Association (AOA), staying current on the latest advancements in eye care and treatment options. ​When she’s not caring for her patients, Dr. Mathew enjoys spending time with her partner and their two orange cats. She is thrilled to provide high-quality eye care through a compassionate approach.

Dr. Bruce Mathie received his optometric education at The Ohio State University graduating with a Doctor of Optometry degree. He is a member of the Ohio Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association, and serves as a clinical examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Mathie practices full scope optometry with a special interest in the treatment and management of ocular disease and glaucoma. Locally, he is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Faternal Order of Eagles and BPO Elks.

I enjoy working with patients to find the best possible solutions for their daily visual requirements. What does providing a transformational eyecare experience mean to you? Ensuring all of the patient's questions are addressed, the patient understands what was found during the eye examination, and the patient is happy with the care that they received. How are you impacting your local community? I enjoy giving back to my community and complete numerous volunteer hours each year with different organizations. Hobbies/Interests: Spending time with my family, boating, reading, traveling

Dr. James Maul earned his undergraduate Engineering degree at The Ohio State University and then continued on to The Ohio State University College of Optometry. Graduating in 1982, he attained membership in Beta Sigma Kappa, the Optometric Honor Society. Dr. Maul has taken an active role in community activities. Through membership in Lions and VOSH, he continues to help facilitate much needed vision care for the underprivileged, both in Norwalk and in Nicaragua. In addition to practicing primary eyecare, Dr. Jim has a particular interest in treating and educating patients dealing with diabetes and glaucoma. He has had two articles published in professional journals and is dedicated to bringing the latest technology and research available to his patients. Dr. Maul is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Ohio Optometric Association, and is a past governor of the North Central Optometric Association.

Providing clear vision to all patient populations in the community. What does providing a transformational eyecare experience mean to you? Knowing each patient on a personal level and seeing them grow over time. How are you impacting your local community? It has been a pleasure to see children that I have treated since they were babies, grow up and be successful athletes, students, and parents. Hobbies/Interests: RVing, Hiking, Skiing, Spending time in the outdoors in general.

How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? By providing comprehensive eye examinations for all ages. Making sure patients are seeing their best so they can do their best. Maximizing of visual efficiency. Emphasis is on prevention of vision worsening. Explaining my recommendations so people understand why I am proposing the treatment. Also ensuring the eyes are healthy and taking appropriate measures should they not be healthy. Hobbies/interests: Golf, DIY projects, woodworking, reading.

Dr. Brian Mays received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry from Indiana University. After serving specialized clinics in Low Vision and Primary Health Care in Indianapolis, Dr. Mays completed his residency in Ocular Disease at Omni Eye Services in Atlanta. While at Omni, Dr. Mays served as chief resident over 25 interns from optometry colleges across the nation. He is certified in therapeutic treatment of ocular infections and disease, including glaucoma. He has served on several research panels investigating new visual field testing and contact lens materials. His research on a rare form of cataract and its detection was featured at SECO. He is the recipient of Ciba Vision's Innovation in Contact Lens and Patient Care Award. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Georgia Optometric Association.

Undergraduate Education: West Virginia University. Optometry School: Pennsylvania College of Optometry. How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? I enjoy taking care of patients and getting to know others in my community and I look forward to continuing to provide eyecare for them and their families. Hobbies/Interests: watching my son play lacrosse, exercising, family movie nights.

Dr. Serena McArthur earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in Health Science Studies with honors and a Biology minor from Baylor University. In 2024, she received her Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. During her time at SCO, Dr. McArthur loved being involved in both optometric and local communities by serving as leadership in multiple academic and service focused organizations - including being awarded Student Ambassador of the Year for her class. Following graduation, Dr. McArthur completed a residency in primary care and ocular disease at BronxCare Health Hospital System in New York. Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. McArthur enjoys traveling, attending local city events, coffee, and reading for leisure.

Dr. Erin McCabe graduated with honors from Pennsylvania College of Optometry with a Doctorate in Optometry and from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Exercise Science. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. McCabe takes a holistic approach to eye care, emphasizing prevention and long-standing relationships with patients.
