After graduating from The New England College of Optometry in 1986, and as a raised Massapequan, Dr. David Sausner returned to his hometown to join the family practice. Seeing the changes occurring in optometry he seized the opportunity to advance the practice into a medical optometric model. Dr. Sausner updated the office and continued his education, ultimately receiving licensure for the highest level of optometric medical practice in New York; allowing him to diagnose and treat ocular disease with topical medications. Dr. Sausner was invited to become a laser correction affiliate when laser correction was introduced in 1994 and co-manages both laser correction and cataract surgery. Dr Sausner also has special interests in dry eye diagnosis and treatment and complicated contact lens fittings. His expertise in challenging contact lens fittings has resulted in his participation as a key opinion leader for contact lens manufacturers. Dr. Sausner has been involved with a local optometric society and has served as a leader on their executive board. While the practice continues to expand on the medical side, ‘Dr. David” has not forgotten his roots in optometry and can often be seen helping in the office’s designer optical boutique. In his free time Dr. Sausner enjoys time with his family as well as the waters of the south shore and local golf courses.

How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? By providing comprehensive eye exams, diabetic eye exams, contact lens fitting, binocular visual dysfunctions, and ocular disease management. My goal as an optometrist is to ensure that my patients receive the best eyecare to fit their visual needs. What drives your passion for optometry? Being allowed to help people improve their vision can have an impact on someone’s daily life. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, exercising, and spending time with my family.

I help patients to live their best lives by listening to their concerns, big or small, so that when they leave the office the can feel heard and like their eye care issues have been addressed. A transformational eyecare experience is a unique and personalized approach to eye care to enable vision to help us live our lives to the fullest. How are you impacting your local community? I want to help the local community by providing exceptional eye care and volunteering when I can. Dr. Jina Schaff studied at the University of Wyoming and the Pacific University College of Optometry. Dr. Schaff knew she wanted to become an optometrist when she was in the 7th grade. To pursue her dream, she started working for OD’s in high school and throughout her undergraduate years. Dr. Schaff specializes in pediatrics (esotropia, exotropia, and amblyopia), dry eye treatment, and multifocal contact lenses. Dr. Schaff has volunteered with Von Miller’s Philanthropy, Von’s Vision, facilitating vision exams and providing glasses for underprivileged children in Denver and the surrounding area since 2013. In 2017, she joined the Advisory Board for Von’s Vision where she assisted in implementing the Von’s Vision Centers located in the Boys and Girls Clubs of Montbello and Lincoln Park. When Dr. Schaff isn’t working, she can be found at her children’s events, running with her dog Bear, riding her bike, and skiing in Winter Park.

Additionally, Dr. Schatz is known for his friendly, professional demeanor, his sense of humor, and his extensive experience in the contact lens field of practice. Personal: I’ve been privileged to have been providing eye care to my patients in College Park, and the surrounding areas and counties for more than forty years. Most rewarding to me, is that I’m still providing eye care to many of these patients, and their families, since early in my career. It’s especially thrilling when a patient comes in who I first treated when they were 10 years old, and now they come in with they’re whole family, including their 10 year old child! Professional Achievements and Associations: Member of American Optometric Association; Member of Virginia Optometric Association; Member of Tidewater Optometric Association, the reason I became an optometrist is: I knew in high school that I wanted to pursue a career that was science or medically related. Since I had been wearing glasses myself from the age of 6 I knew that good vision was an important part of my life. I decided to investigate what was required to qualify for Optometry School. I have never looked back. As an Optometrist I play a vital role in eye care. Not only do I prescribe glasses and contact lenses, but I detect and manage eye diseases and disorders of the visual system. My favorite part of helping my patients is: I love being able to interact with and learn about so many different people every day. I especially love seeing my patients back year after year and watching their families grow and change. In my spare time, I enjoy: Cycling, walking, boating, gardening, and hanging out with my husband and three dogs.

Dr. Schlesman is a primary eye care physician that specializes in cornea and contact lenses. Dr. Schlesman received her undergraduate degree from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida in 2019 where she played DII collegiate volleyball. She graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry in 2023. While in optometry school, Dr. Schlesman completed her externship training at The Villages VA Outpatient Clinic and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the #1 Eye Hospital in the United States. She completed a residency in Primary Care with emphasis in Cornea and Contact Lenses at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry, where she had extensive training in full-scope primary eye care as well as managing complex corneal conditions and performing contact lens fittings, including soft and all specialty contact lens types. She looks forward to taking care of all your eye care needs!

The reason I became an optometrist is: I have bad eyesight myself and had to go to my family optometrist a lot growing up. My optometrist became a mentor and friend and I ended up working in the field and eventually going to optometry school. It’s a great feeling to help people see! My favorite part of helping my patients is: Meeting lots of new people and getting to know them over the years. Making a difference in someone’s life. In my spare time, I enjoy: Cooking, hiking, spending time outdoors or at the beach, enjoying a glass of wine with my friends.
