The reason I became an optometrist is: Having a sibling that is an optometrist and 15 years older, I was introduced to the profession at an early age. I was able to see “behind the scenes” and was immediately interested in the profession. I always gravitated towards the sciences in school and as I progressed through my education, it became clearer that optometry was the perfect fit. My favorite part of helping my patients is: Giving a patient his or her first pair of glasses, especially kids. Their reaction to seeing the world clear for the first time is priceless. Also, being informed by a parent that a child’s school performance has improved because of his or her glasses is something that never gets old. In my spare time, I enjoy: Playing golf; Spending time with my wife and kids.

Dr. Reshmi Kurup is a dedicated optometrist with a passion for improving vision and eye health. She completed her undergraduate studies at SUNY Binghamton in the selective 3/4-year joint degree program with SUNY College of Optometry, earning her BA in Biology in three years. She then earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY College of Optometry, where she received extensive training in ocular disease, primary care, and specialized treatments. Dr. Kurup completed her residency at the Hudson Valley VA, focusing on ocular disease and primary care.
